DW048: Bitcoin Communities, AI Learning, & Filipino Contractors

Weekly #048

☕️ Reading time: 4 mins.

Hola fellow wayfinder!

Last week, we discussed Dreams, Intuition & The Age of AI. This week, we look at Bitcoin communities and how working with Filipino contractors taught me how to write better prompts for AI.

Let's dive in.

As entrepreneurs, we are often tasked with building communities around our products, services, or ideas. This process requires trust, clear directions, and a deep understanding of the people we hope to attract. The same is now true for working with AI.

Below I’ll explore three seemingly disparate topics: Bitcoin communities, learning AI, and working with Filipino contractors. I’ll examine each through the lens of community-building, entrepreneurship, and past wisdom to reveal important insights into how to create healthy and thriving communities.

Bitcoin Communities: Confusing Product, Brand, and Protocol

Bitcoin has become a global phenomenon that has captured the imagination of entrepreneurs and “investors” alike. But as Bitcoin has grown in popularity, so too have the controversies surrounding it. One of the biggest sources of confusion within the Bitcoin ecosystem is the distinction between Bitcoin as a product, a brand, and a protocol.

Bitcoin as a product refers to the system itself — the software that powers the network and allows users to send and receive transactions. Bitcoin as a brand refers to the name and symbols associated with the network, such as BTC, BCH, and BSV. Finally, Bitcoin as a protocol refers to the rules that govern the network, such as the maximum number of Bitcoins that will ever be created.

The confusion surrounding these distinctions has led to the fracturing of the original Bitcoin community into separate camps, each claiming to be the true Bitcoin. This confusion is akin to the modern-day confusion between science, scientism, and the scientific method.
