IWCD107: Georgia Meloni, Family Identity & Venus New Moon

Daily #107

G'day there,

This week I'd like to go through some more spiritual/ancestral topics, but tied in with recent events. Especially after mentioning the book Fresh Banana Leaves yesterday.

Italy's New "Far-Right" Prime Minister

If you didn't hear the news, Italy recently elected its first female prime minister, Georgia Meloni, the first "far-right" PM since World War II (WWII). I'm not particularly a fan of all the labels (because I feel it only furthers divides). However, I understand it simplifies our ability to discuss groups with certain characteristics.

The reason I'm sharing this news is that my first introduction to her was from a tweet, where she delivered a pretty powerful speech:

Although you can tell her conservative position, she makes a lot of valid points that were even making me nod my head to. The way she speaks reminds me of scenes from the film The King's Speech. So if you're interested in rhetoric, study this woman's delivery and see what you can learn from it (while being mindful of her underlying views).

Family Identity

In Issue #104, I spoke about how the Incas valued family above all else. They viewed it as "true wealth," much like the Mauryans from ancient India viewed it within the Vedic "8 forms of wealth." In relation to Meloni, the Italians are also traditionally known for their family values. However, in recent times, it seems like the family unit has been degraded to the point that Italy's majority has elected a "far-right" leader to help bring those values back. And I can't blame them.

In a modern world where identity politics is the norm, it's easy to see why populism (globally) is taking hold. Change is never easy, nor best. However, in episode #103 of my old It Will Come Show on Youtube, I talk about why dysfunctional families create great entrepreneurs. But the same could also be said about great leaders, like Georgia Meloni.

Episode 103 was inspired by my own personal experiences. I had solid family values embedded growing up. My childhood was relatively stable, despite it being your typical immigrant family story. "Family always sticks together." But it wasn't until later that dysfunctionality started to set in and cause the family to break apart - a result of my parent's divorce.

Fast forward a decade or so and it seems like this break-up of the family unit is a much wider issue globally. And this is what Georgia Meloni seems to be doing a 'good job' of speaking to. I don't know much else about her other views or policies, so I can only judge her from this one speech. But parts of it certainly resonated. Will certainly be keeping an eye out to get a broader understanding.

Venus New Moon

One of my favorite authors, Sergio Magaña, published a video about how the new moon (in Venus) we've just entered, is translated through the Toltec lens. On this day, Venus disappears, allowing orders to change. To dive deeper into what this period means astrologically, click here.

Sergio is restarting lessons about reading Toltec/Mayan calendars and time, the Toltec-Mayan union, and pilgrimages of "Conscious Dying." He'll be in Hungary and Italy (how timely) soon to do in-person workshops, so be sure to check out his website here.

I share Sergio's work because I love how he translates ancestral knowledge for modern times. If you've been following my journey, you'll know how into "dreamwork" I am. Sergio published a book called The Toltec Secret, which I discovered and loved because it contained a lot of wisdom passed down from my own Polynesian side of the family.

Mexicans - from the Toltec to the Maya - are very big on family as well. And it is this love for "family" that has caused a lot of various ancient/indigenous cultures to have traditions surrounding ancestors. In 2012, I wrote a blog post titled Return of the Ancestors which is something I still strongly believe. When I say "return of the ancestors," I mean "return of ancestral knowledge," which all families have a tie to genetically.

What does family mean to you? Do you have strong ancestral ties in your own culture? Hit reply! Would love to hear about it.
